A Scandinavian-inspired retreat with a distinctly personal touch, the Oslo House blends handcrafted details with warm minimalism to create a space that feels both serene and full of character. Designed to reflect the simplicity and charm of a Norwegian getaway, the kitchen is anchored by raw wood, slab drawers showcasing rich hickory grain, and clean lines that highlight the natural materials throughout. The heart of the space is a custom-designed island with an integrated round table at the end — brought to life by Rochester Local Entrada Woodworking. A hidden coffee bar is tucked behind bespoke pocket door cabinetry, with dolomite shelving reminiscent of the Italian Alps — a favorite design element and a quiet surprise that elevates daily routines. To open up the floor plan, the dividing wall between the old kitchen and dining room was removed, making way for a light-filled, eat-in concept. Flanked by a piece hand-sketched by Danielle and Crafted in Vermont, the large hickory dining table adds a grounded, sculptural quality with ample seating that invites gathering. Two windows were added in the dining space to lets in light and the oversized, outdated box bay window was replaced with two scaled-down, design-forward windows set on either side of the cooktop wall — finished with a shiplap ceiling overhead and a plaster hood for subtle texture. The once-imposing brick fireplace was reimagined in Nero Marble with a soft luster finish. It’s now framed by a custom maple mantle and beams — another hand-drawn concept by Danielle — that echo the warmth of the natural wood and tie into the moody green room in Mt. Etna, a space perfect for family movie night, or a glass of wine by the fire — crafted in deliberate contract to the light and bright eat-in kitchen. Handcrafted choices throughout, the Oslo House is a playful yet refined space designed for a young family that values simplicity, beauty, and timeless design.
